We support the Brampton And Greater Toronto Area chapter of Warming Families by including twelve 8" squares as part of our membership dues.
Squares should be:
- made in-the-round
- 8" on each side, erring on the side of "too small"
- made using worsted weight acrylic yarn
- finished with all ends woven in except for the last one on the outside, which should measure 6"
If, for any reason, you are unable to make these squares, there is the option of donating yarn instead, or making something else (an option to be discussed with the Charity Coordinator).
At some meetings, our activity is a "Charity Square Round-Robin". During this time, the group is divided in two: the larger group takes the stacks of squares that members have made and put an edging on them to make them all the same size. The smaller group takes the edged squares and arranges them into a pleasing pattern before crocheting the squares together.
Any members who feel their crochet skills are not quite up for either of these tasks (and who aren't feeling adventurous enough to give it a try anyway!) or those who have allergies or other concerns that may prevent participation, are encouraged to make more squares or work on other charity projects during this time.
